How Much to Pay for a Computer?
04.01.2002

Buying a computer is usually a trade off between price and performance. An expensive computer is usually more reliable and faster that its cheaper counterpart.

If you are an entrepreneur, looking for a simple home computer, prices now range from P 18,000 - P 22,000 for a basic setup.

My computer is an AMD 500 MHz, 128MB memory, with 20GB hard disk. I bought this April 2001, for a price of about P 19,000. It works fine, allowing me to do multiple tasks such as graphic design, word processing, and so on.

For a small business, you might want to buy computers that are slightly more reliable than home computers. Basically you are looking at buying a better brand of motherboard and processor. You can get good, reliable computers for P 25,000.

For corporations, reliability is a big issue. For every hour a computer is not working, the employee is unproductive. I would recommend buying branded computers from IT companies that provide excellent after sales service. Be prepared to spend up to P 60,000 per computer.

Until next month.
