How Much to Pay When Networking Computers?
04.01.2002

Local Area Networks (LAN) increase the benefits of standalone computers. Resources such as printers, database, files, Internet access, and applications can be shared to all computers connected to the network.

Cost to network 10 computers
10 units of network cards (NIC) - P 5,000
16-port hub – P 10,000
1 roll Cat5 UTP cable – P 2,500
20 units of RJ45 connectors – P 200
Total – P 17,700.00 ($ 354USD)

For corporations, my advice is to implement a structured cabling solution. Basically the wiring architecture will be flexible, allowing computers to be relocated with minimal wiring costs.
