Here is my personal opinion on what a professor's role is:

• Motivates students to excel in class and in life
• Guides students through the course
• Provides advice and consultation
• Shares real life experience as it relates to the subject
• Instill discipline and respect for others

This is not the role of a professor:

• Read the course topic word for word (i.e. the "spoon feeding" method)
• Demoralize a student
• Berate a student
