"What to Look for When Buying Web Hosting and Domain Names."

Web Hosting

My criteria for selecting a Web hosting company:

1. Easy to use - graphical tools to make uploading of files easy.

2. Speed - fast connections that allow my Web pages to load quickly on a Web browser.

3. Reliability - my Web site must be up, 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week, 31 days in a month...

4. Tracking - ability to analyze and data mine log files to provide performance statistics.

5. Value - price to performance ratio.

Although I consider price, it is not my primary consideration. First, a cheap Web hosting company with poor quality will cost my business more money than simply paying $40 more per year for a quality Web hosting company.

And so, for the past 3 years, I have used only one Web hosting companies for all 7 business Web sites that I manage.

Sidebar: Although I am living in the Philippines, I host all my business Web sites in a Web server in the USA. This is because they are faster and cheaper compared to Web hosting services in the Philippines. This setup is not a problem, I simply pay via MasterCard.

Domain Names Registration

• www.webphil.com - This is the domain name registered for the Philippines Web Tutorial site.
• www.NonLifeInsurance.com - Registered this domain name to provide information on how to get car insurance in California.
• www.rccartips.com - Domain name registered for a website promoting the hobby of remote control cars and trucks. Learn how to choose rc cars and the best online hobby shops to buy rc cars for sale.
• www.rc-airplanes.com - Domain name registered for a website promoting remote control (R/C) airplanes, blimps, and other flying vehicles. Learn the best rc airplanes for beginners and links to popular online hobby shops where you can buy rc airplanes for sale.
• www.rc-monster-trucks.com - Domain name registration for a site promoting the hobby of rc trucks. Guide to choosing electric and nitro powered rc trucks and where you can buy rc trucks for sale.
• www.rc-helicopters.net - Domain name registration for a site promoting the hobby of rc helicopters. Introduction to cheap rc helicopters and where you can buy rc helicopters for sale online.

When choosing a domain name for your business, I strongly recommend finding one that has a .com extension. People by default assume business domain names end with a .com extension.
